VNPay is a widely used QR payment and digital wallet service accepted at a huge number of merchants across Vietnam. About VNPay: Rather than a single consumer-facing app, VNPay operates primarily as a payment infrastructure provider, with its QR code system displayed at checkout counters nationwide and accessible through many partner banking apps as well as its own VNPay wallet. Key Features: Universal QR Payments: Pay at shops, restaurants, and services displaying the VNPay QR code through many different linked banking apps. Bank App Integration: Most major Vietnamese banking apps support paying via VNPay QR directly, without a separate VNPay app. Bill Payments: Pay utilities and other recurring bills through supporting apps. Wide Merchant Acceptance: One of the most widely accepted QR payment standards in Vietnam. How to Get Started: Check whether your existing Vietnamese bank's app supports VNPay QR payments, or download the standalone VNPay wallet app. Register with a Vietnamese phone number and link a local bank account. At checkout, scan the VNPay QR code displayed by the merchant. Confirm the payment amount in your banking or VNPay app. Important Notice: VNPay is built around Vietnamese bank accounts and phone numbers — it requires a local bank account for most functionality, making it more relevant for residents or longer-term visitors than a short trip.
