MoMo
MoMo is Vietnam's largest mobile e-wallet, used for payments, transfers, and bill payments by a large share of the country's smartphone users. About MoMo: Beyond peer-to-peer transfers, MoMo has grown into a broad payments platform covering bill payments, mobile top-ups, movie tickets, and QR payments accepted at a huge number of merchants across Vietnam. Key Features: QR Payments: Pay at shops, cafés, and restaurants by scanning a QR code. Peer-to-Peer Transfers: Send money instantly to other MoMo users by phone number. Bill Payments: Pay utilities, mobile top-ups, and other recurring bills in a few taps. Ticket & Voucher Purchases: Buy movie tickets, vouchers, and other services directly in the app. How to Get Started: Download MoMo from Google Play or the App Store. Register with a Vietnamese phone number and confirm by SMS. Link a local bank account or top up your wallet balance in cash at a partner location. Use the wallet to pay by QR code, send transfers, or pay bills. Important Notice: MoMo is built around Vietnamese bank accounts and phone numbers — full functionality typically requires a local bank account, making it more practical for longer stays than a short visit. The interface is in Vietnamese only.
ZaloPay
ZaloPay is a popular mobile wallet integrated with the widely used Zalo messaging app, letting users pay, transfer, and top up directly from their chat app. About ZaloPay: Built on top of Zalo's huge existing user base (Vietnam's most popular messaging app), ZaloPay lets users make QR payments, transfer money to contacts, and pay bills without leaving the messaging ecosystem they already use daily. Key Features: QR Payments: Pay at shops, restaurants, and cafés by scanning a QR code. Peer-to-Peer Transfers: Send money instantly to Zalo contacts. Bill Payments: Pay utilities, mobile top-ups, and other recurring bills. Zalo Integration: Access payments directly within the Zalo messaging app you may already use. How to Get Started: Download ZaloPay or activate it within the Zalo app if already installed. Register with a Vietnamese phone number and confirm by SMS. Link a local bank account or top up your wallet balance. Use the wallet to pay by QR code, send transfers, or pay bills. Important Notice: Full account verification requires a Vietnamese phone number and typically a local ID for larger transactions — this app is built for residents rather than short-term visitors. The interface has no English option.
VNPay
VNPay is a widely used QR payment and digital wallet service accepted at a huge number of merchants across Vietnam. About VNPay: Rather than a single consumer-facing app, VNPay operates primarily as a payment infrastructure provider, with its QR code system displayed at checkout counters nationwide and accessible through many partner banking apps as well as its own VNPay wallet. Key Features: Universal QR Payments: Pay at shops, restaurants, and services displaying the VNPay QR code through many different linked banking apps. Bank App Integration: Most major Vietnamese banking apps support paying via VNPay QR directly, without a separate VNPay app. Bill Payments: Pay utilities and other recurring bills through supporting apps. Wide Merchant Acceptance: One of the most widely accepted QR payment standards in Vietnam. How to Get Started: Check whether your existing Vietnamese bank's app supports VNPay QR payments, or download the standalone VNPay wallet app. Register with a Vietnamese phone number and link a local bank account. At checkout, scan the VNPay QR code displayed by the merchant. Confirm the payment amount in your banking or VNPay app. Important Notice: VNPay is built around Vietnamese bank accounts and phone numbers — it requires a local bank account for most functionality, making it more relevant for residents or longer-term visitors than a short trip. The interface has no English option.
