Sham Cash
A widely used Syrian mobile wallet for sending money, paying bills and government fees, and receiving public-sector salaries, in Syrian pounds, US dollars and Turkish lira.
About Sham Cash
Sham Cash is a Syrian mobile payment app that lets users hold balances in three currencies, send money by account or QR code, and pay bills and some government fees. It became more widely used after the Ministry of Finance decided that public-sector salaries would be paid into Sham Cash accounts from May 2025, with cash withdrawals handled through authorised money transfer companies. It is an app-based wallet only and does not issue a payment card.
Key Features
- Three Currencies: Keep and move money in Syrian pounds, US dollars and Turkish lira.
- QR and Account Transfers: Send and receive money using an account code or a QR code.
- Bills and Government Fees: Pay some bills and government service fees from the app.
- Salary Payments: Many public-sector employees receive their salary in a Sham Cash account.
How to Get Started
- Go to the official Sham Cash website, shamcash.sy, and follow its link to the app.
- Install the app and register with your phone number.
- Complete the identity steps that the app asks for.
- Receive or top up money, and send payments by QR code or account code.
The app has not been available on Google Play or the App Store, so it is installed from the official website, and installing from an unofficial link is a security risk. Unofficial pages have advertised a Sham Cash payment card, but the service has no card. Outages have happened, including one on 8 March 2026 when the website domain was suspended, so do not keep money in the wallet that you cannot afford to be without. The app is in Arabic and works with a Syrian phone number.
