About Maldives Meteorological Service

The Maldives Meteorological Service is responsible for both weather and seismological services in the country, and the Maldives has been a member of the World Meteorological Organization since 1980. It issues daily weather forecasts, aviation forecasts, marine forecasts and weather warnings, and handles Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami alerts. It runs five meteorological offices, with the main national centre at Hulhulé, plus 20 automated weather stations and tide gauges. Alerts, often colour-coded, are published on its website and shared by government media.

How to Get Started

  1. Open meteorology.gov.mv to see the current forecast.

  3. Follow the service's official channels for updates.
  4. Check again during the southwest monsoon, when rough weather is more common.
⚠️ Important Notice

Rough seas can delay or cancel speedboat, ferry and seaplane transfers, so allow spare time before international flights. When an alert is in effect, follow the advice of your resort, the coast guard and local authorities. Forecasts change quickly, so check on the day you travel.
