SBI Remit
Send money home from Japan through a remittance service built specifically for the country's foreign workers, with multilingual support and cash-pickup options in 200+ countries. About SBI Remit: SBI Remit is a Tokyo-based international remittance service founded in 2010, and a subsidiary of SBI Holdings, one of Japan's largest financial groups. It was built around Japan's growing need for foreign labor — the country's foreign worker population has grown from around 650,000 in 2010 to over 2 million today — and specializes in low-cost transfers home for the foreign residents supporting that workforce, with especially strong usage among Filipino, Vietnamese and Chinese communities in Japan. Key Features: Multilingual Support: Service and registration support in around 8 languages, built for foreign residents rather than adapted for them afterward. Cash Pickup Option: Recipients without a bank account in the destination country can often collect transfers in cash, useful for family members abroad. Bank Partnerships Nationwide: Partnered with 26+ Japanese banks and shinkin (credit) banks as agents, extending access well beyond SBI's own branches. App-Based Transfers: Send money via the SBI Remit app without visiting an ATM, once your account is set up. How to Get Started: Register for an SBI Remit account online, using your Residence Card (在留カード) as your primary ID. Complete identity verification — registration typically takes about 5–7 business days before you can transfer. Add funds to your account and select your destination country and payout method (bank deposit or cash pickup). Send the transfer and track it through the app. Important Notice: Account setup is not instant — budget several business days before your first transfer goes through, and confirm your destination country and recipient details carefully, since remittance fees and delivery times vary by corridor.
