Ejar
Saudi Arabia's official electronic network for the rental sector, where residential and commercial lease contracts are registered and rent payments are tracked, so tenants renting a flat or villa will deal with it for their lease.
About Ejar
Ejar is an electronic network that regulates the real estate rental sector in Saudi Arabia and protects the rights of tenants, landlords and brokers. It is one of the programs supervised by the Real Estate General Authority, and its website says it is developed and operated by NHCI. The site lists about 3.36 million valid contracts and more than 47,000 licensed brokerage offices. In December 2023 the authority announced that rent payments would only be accepted through the Ejar platform, to protect transactions from fraud.
Key Features
- Contract Registration: Residential and commercial leases are registered and documented on a unified electronic contract.
- Contract Services: Renewal, cancellation by mutual agreement, contract transfer and handover of the unit are handled online.
- Payment Tracking: Rent payments under a registered contract are tracked and collected through the platform.
- Broker Check: Tenants can check whether a brokerage office is licensed and view the list of licensed brokers.
How to Get Started
- Find a property through a licensed broker or landlord and agree on the rent and payment schedule.
- Ask the landlord or broker to register the lease on Ejar.
- Log in to Ejar with your Nafath account and review and approve the contract.
- Pay the rent through the channels shown for your contract on Ejar.
Logging in uses Nafath, so a tenant normally needs an Iqama and a Saudi mobile number linked to it. Some help and FAQ pages are only in Arabic. According to Ejar, the 125 SAR annual renewal fee for a residential contract is paid by the landlord, but fees and payment rules can change, so check the current terms on ejar.sa before signing.
