About Snapp
Snapp launched in Tehran in February 2014 as "Taxi Yaab," founded by Iyad Elkaser and Mahmud Fauz, and became Iran's first ride-hailing service - quoting a fixed fare upfront and removing the traditional back-and-forth of taxi bargaining. Backed by a $22 million Series A investment from South Africa's MTN in 2016, and insulated from foreign competitors like Uber, which cannot legally operate in Iran due to sanctions, Snapp grew into the country's dominant ride-hailing app, now reaching more than 60 million users across 287 Iranian cities as the anchor service of a broader 20-service Snapp super-app that also includes SnappFood, SnappMarket and SnappTrip.
